Thurston Reservoir State Wildlife Area
For birders, Thurston Reservoir is a great place to see good rails, bitterns, and ducks swimming in the open channels. Nearby fields can attract huge flocks of Sandhill Cranes in migration, and there are sometimes thousands of Snow Geese here in the winter.

Motorboats: Permitted except during waterfowl season. Primitive, free boat ramp.

Access: Open year-round but closed to motorboats during waterfowl season
Fishing: Crappie, Channel, Catfish, Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Wipers, and possibly some Tiger Muskie.
Hunting: dove, duck, and goose.
Recreation: fishing, hunting, powerboating, sailboarding, windsurfing, waterskiing, camping, and wildlife viewing.
Restrictions:
- Boating prohibited if it creates whitewater wake November 1 through last day of waterfowl season.
- Closed 1 hour after sunset to 1 hour before sunrise except for fishing.
- ATVs, dirt bikes, and snowmobiles prohibited.
- Frozen surface of lake closed.
- Dams, inlets, outlet structures closed except for fishing.
