Turk’s Pond State Wildlife Area
Check this small pond for ducks during the fall and spring, and shorebirds if the water is low. The few small trees around the lake could contain migrants in season, and sparrows during the winter. The small pond across from the entrance road often has as many ducks as Turk’s Pond does.

Frank Ranch offers birding along North Butte Creek as well as in the shortgrass prairie uplands. The black-tailed prairie dog towns are home to both Mountain Plover and Burrowing Owl and the old homesteads often yield Barn Owls.

This 5,000-acre, 5th generation working ranch located in southern Prowers County offers vast shortgrass prairie with rocky outcrops and cedar-lined bluffs.
Lamar
Lamar is one of the best birding destinations in the state. From here, Indian Reservoirs, John Martin Reservoir, and Two Buttes State Wildlife Area are less than an hour away.

Paddle, fish, or boat at North Gateway Park, where two conveniently located ponds make spending a great day on the water easy.
